Organizing & Loving Your Home After the Holiday Decor Comes Down

When it’s time for the Christmas decorations to be put back away, it’s a perfect opportunity for a fresh start. Today I want to encourage you to take time to redesign and organize your brain and your physical space for the new year.

Tip #1: Be Diligent in Deep Cleaning

I know we’re all feeling a little tired, but now is the most efficient time to get your home deep cleaned. You can always hire this out if that’s the most efficient way to go. Or you can enlist the help of family members to get those baseboards dusted, window treatments cleaned, and those hard to reach spots behind the furniture all tidied up. Try to get this done before putting any of your regular decor back in its spot after the Christmas decorations are put away.

Tip #2: Be Really Honest When Redecorating Each Room

Be thoughtful when replacing your holiday decor with your every day decor items. Only use what you still love, and consider donating the rest. Another great option is to switch around the location of your decor. Sometimes grouping items differently, or calming the space is all you need to feel refreshed and renew your space for the new year. Allow yourself time to live with an emptier space and be intentional about what re-enters your living space.

Tip #3: Be Open to Creating Order Through Organization

Now is also a great time to declutter and organize your common spaces. At least at my house, the living room and kitchen become a bit of a catch-all for kids’ homework, mail to be sorted, and seasonal projects. Do you need a new solution for coralling shoes? A mail sorting station by the entryway? Hooks and bins designated for each family member can work wonders in reducing those chaotic mornings on the way out the door to school.

Tip #4: Be Mindful of Making Time for Little Moments

Set aside a regular time to reset your home. This step isn’t so much about cleaning as tidying up. When you take a loop around the house and put things back where they belong, there’s an immediate payoff of clarity and relaxation. I encourage clients to couple this routine with another habit they already practice. For example, maybe they put everything away in the kitchen area as part of meal prep. Or, after dinner, everyone pitches in to pick up zones around the house, so things are ready to go for the evening and the next day. January is a great time to develop some new habits! Setting aside regular time to tidy your home is going to pay off in saved time and reduced stress.

Want to love your home again in a brand new way? I can help! Let's organize your brain space & physical space for the new year.

Cheers,

Karina
